Lansoprazole Dosage

Lansoprazole is a sort of medication, which comes in the form of capsules and Lansoprazole Dosage should be taken religiously and exactly in the way one’s healthcare provider advises or prescribes.

Lansoprazole (also known as Zoton FasTab®) is used for the treatment of acid-related dyspepsia, ulcers like duodenal and gastric ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, removal of the Helicobacter pylori bacterium (these lead to ulcers) and the ulcers, which are caused by the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

During the process of food digestion and for destroying bacteria, acid is automatically formed in the stomach. However, to avoid the discomfort this acid might lead to, the body also produces a wall of mucus to keep the stomach undisturbed (See Lansoprazole side effects). If this mucus coating is removed or busted, conditions like ulcers and inflammation are most likely to occur. Lansoprazole helps to lessen this acid formation in the stomach of the patient by restricting the stomach lining cells to produce higher quantities of acid.

Prior to commencing with your Lansoprazole Dosage, you must make your healthcare provider thoroughly aware of the few details about yourself, like if you are on any other kind of medications or suffering from issues like unnatural weight reduction, allergetic symptoms, liver problems; and if you are pregnant, experiencing bleeding, or falling sick often, etc.

The dosage is normally supposed to be once daily in the morning, or, it might be twice (in case of destroying Helicobacter pylori bacterium), for which the second dose is to be taken in the evening. The dosage should be taken before the morning and evening meals and the minimum time gap maintained between the dosage and the meals should be half an hour. In case a dose is missed, it should be taken immediately after you are reminded, however, you must not take two doses together by any means.

Lansoprazole, when in the form of tablets, can be easily gulped down with drinking water but the tablets must not be opened, squeezed or chewed. Make sure you avoid any kind of medication for indigestion during your Lansoprazole Dosage (two hours before and after your Lansoprazole consumption). This will allow the Lansoprazole to perform its functions without any interruptions.

In cases when FasTab® (orodispersible capsule) is prescribed, one can either swallow it with water or mix it with water and then consume it. It can also be consumed by simply leaving it on the upper surface of the tongue and sucking it, this will break it up and can be easily swallowed. Adjusting one’s dose without the consent of the healthcare provider is not advisable.

Usually adults dealing with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are advised to take 15 mg dosage of Lansoprazole daily, which is to be continued for 8 weeks. Again for the treatment of erosive esophagitis, the dosage might be increased to 30 mg per day for the same duration (8 weeks). Lansoprazole Dosage should not be continued further unless you are prescribed the same by your healthcare provider.
